To get the DeepSeaScale you must go the the abandoned ship and dive after you have solved the little puzzle then dive down and get the scanner and then talk to Captain Stern (he will ask for the scanner in return for a DeepSeaScale or a DeepSeaTooth, the scanner is worthless so swap it and you have your DeepSeaScale.) Attach it to a Clamperl and trade it to get a Gorebyss.
