For the PS2 version, you can make your animals run away by not caring for them (making them starve, not buying a bed for them, etc.) but I am not sure if it will work for PC.

Eventually, the teen will run away if you treat him/her bad enough. To get your teen back, click on the phone and choose the option "Report missing person" and the police will eventually bring your teen back to the house.
