1. At age 16 you are eligible for to start the license process. This starts with a written exam at a BC Service office. 2. If you pass the exam you get what is called a learners license. You are giving a red "L" which must be displayed on the vehicle when you are driving. Learner License restriction include driving with a adult over 25 years who holds a valid license at all times. One other passenger is allowed. Learners permit must be held for a minimum of 1 year. 3. After one year Learners license you can go for a "N" or New Driver License. You will be required to pass a driving exam which can be difficult to pass. Book this test early as there are long waits. After passing this test you receive a green "N" which must be on your vehicle at all times. Limits with a "N" license include: no alchohol in blood, no more than one friend as passenger in vehicle, (family/siblings unlimited), 1 speeding ticket puts you on probabtion, 2 tickets and they pull your license. The "N" License must be held for a minimum of 18 months before applying for full license. 4. After 18months with "N" license you are required to take another road test for your full Class 5 license.
