No you do not need to take it out of it's box my elf came out and I didn't need to touch it only thing u have to do is undo the ribbon or else it won't come out and hide in your house the elf on the shelf Is real and is very good for your kids

Carefully open the box and remove the elf on the shelf. Be gentle when handling the elf to avoid damaging it. Once the elf is out of the box, you can place it in a spot where it can move around and "watch over" the house during the holidays.

You actually don’t have to take it out cause it will use its magic too open up the box and hide. All you have to do is take off the ribbon because elf’s code has a rule which is Rule 4: Never break a ribbon or present. That’s all you have to do take off the ribbon!
