well if it is not playing any music then you should always check the top left corner of your iPod if you have any ipod from a nano to a shuffle make sure that top part shows a white part if you want to lock it you put it st that you can see the orange part. Next you on music then you have an option of clicking on: COVERFLOW, GENIUS, PLAYLIST, ARTISTS, ALBUMS, SONGS, GENRES, COMPOSERS, AUDIOBOOKS or SEARCH then after you click on SONGS and play whatever song you want.
