Put your shoe in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes. The wax will pop off. Then use leather cleaner.
Put the shoe in the freezer for half an hour. It should lift off completely after that. If there is a residue left, and it is a leather shoe, running it under very hot water will dissolve the rest of it.
