The same way you get it off the other three tires.
First take out the tools from inside the compartment located just at the back and below the rear seat. Then,?ælift the carpet and locate the large round cap right in the center and near the edge closest to where the rear door latches on to. Use the screwdriver to unscrew this cap. Once the cap is taken off, a hexagonal nut will be visible and use the tire wrench to unscrew it. Once the nut is out, the bolt will release and the spare tire will fall out from under the chassis.
Removed plate from under car in front of rear tire, I found that the vacuum cap on the gas tank was dry rotted. I replaced the cap and it was stopped leaking.
I just pry them off with the crow bar.

If you have an extened cab it is under the rear seat Reg cap they put it in engine compartment on pass fenderwell. Not sure on the 4 door cab but I would guess it is under back seat too

Remove the tire and wheel. Remove the brake assembly and rotor. Remove the axle end cap. The rear hub assembly will come off.
On a 2008 Ford Explorer you can have a fuel cap or the EASY FUEL system that doesn't have a fuel cap
