The only way I know is to think long and hard about the question, "will my failure to attain this thing ultimately mean that my life is not worth living?" If the answer is no, and you can live without that thing, then you may never become particularly committed to it. If the answer is yes, then to remind yourself frequently, and keep it at the forefront of your mind.
Dedicated means you want to do what you are doing and you are fully dedicated to it. Committed means you have committed to putting yourself there and you will be there because you said you would. An example is a pig and a chicken open a restaurant and call it "Bacon and Eggs" the chicken is dedicated but the pig is just committed.
