There are a number of ways you can contract diarrhoea;
For short term diarrhoea is can be;
a symptom of a bowel infection (gastroenteritis), which can be caused by:
a virus - such as norovirus or rotavirus
bacteria - such as campylobacter, Clostridium difficile (C. difficile), Escherichia coli (E. coli), salmonella or shigella; these can all cause food poisoning parasites.
Other potential causes of short term bouts of diarrhoea can include;
feelings of anxiety, drinking too much alcohol, a food allergy, appendicitis or damage to the lining of the intestines as a result of radiotherapy
Medication can cause diarrhoea sometimes for instance taking;
antibiotics , antacid medicines that contain magnesium
some chemotherapy medicines, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
statins - cholesterol-lowering medicines, laxatives - medicine used to help empty your bowels
Diarrhoea that can cause persistent issues include:
irritable bowel syndrome conditions that cause the gut to become inflamed, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis
coeliac disease - which is a digestive condition where you have an adverse reaction to gluten
bile acid malabsorption - where bile produced by the liver builds up in the digestive system
chronic pancreatitis -
inflammation of the pancreas where small bulges or pockets develop in the lining of the intestine
bowel cancer - this can cause diarrhoea and blood in what is passed.
Persistent diarrhoea can also sometimes occur after you have surgery on the stomach, such as a gastrectomy.

Beagles tend to live until they are 12-15 years old if they are kept healthy and loved. You should feed them dog food, but if you can't, then give them hamburger & rice. I have a beagle that is 15, his heart is strong, he has cushings disease (for about 2 years now, untreated), and he has mild chronic bronchitis (treated), and just recently was given a barium x-ray due to blood in his diahreea and lethargy. I think he ate something from the garbage that made him sick, but thank goodness did not cause a blockage. I love him so much, I know he is feeling pain right now due to his tummy, but I'm hoping he will get better here over the next couple days, if not, he will be 15 years exactly this October. If I can get him to last another 2-3 years, I'll be so happy. He loves to lie down wherever I am. He's blind, and def, but can smell and still wags his tail when I get home. :)
