Fever is the body's response to infection from bacteria or viruses. The increased body temperature allows chemical reactions, and therefore the immune system to work faster.

Have you ever noticed how you get chills when you have a fever? You shiver, and have the urge to warm yourself? Well, this is basically how the body creates a fever state. It sets your "normal" temperature to a higher "setting." This means your body will use every method possible to hold on to heat, creating a fever.

So, although uncomfortable, fever is actually a defense mechanism that helps you feel better faster.
