Anyways, it depends on how bad it is. I, personally have fairly long curly/wavy hair, so it creates a lot of knots. If it's bad, like really bad, then try to brush it with a plastic brush first. Start from the bottom and work your way up. If you start from the top, the brush will get stuck, and the knots will clump together and get worse.

Please, don't try to cut it. Mistakes happen. I speak from experience. Try to brush it out as much as possible. I hope this helps.
