Go back into the prison cell and use your pick-axe (which you should have grabbed in the tunnel) to escape the cell.
You can only do this with the sardines you get from the tunnel at the prison.
Exit the tunnel. Now, you have to get out of there yourself. Use the pickax in the cell, and you'll end up outside the cell.
The story of the ghost who plays a violin in the Pen y Clip tunnel is copied from a story in Wirt Sykes' British Goblins. Wirt Sykes book was originally published in 1880, but the Pen y Clip ghost only appeared after the text was first put online.
The can of sardines is in the tunnel behind the prison cell that you are locked in, along with an axe and a written note. Slide the bed over in the cell to reveal the tunnel.
