How do you get sonic 3 level select on sonic mega collection?

After "SEGA" appears, and before the screen flashes, press up, up, up, down, down, down, up, down and you should hear a ring sound. if you don't, then either my code is wrong, or you weren't fast enough.

Sonic 3, in any incarnation apart from the lock-on game Sonic 3 and Knuckles, does have a level select code. When the Sega logo fades, quickly press up twice, down twice and up continuously (an minimum of three times is required). This should take you to a level select screen. This is notably difficult, possibly the most difficult level select on any Sonic game.

if you have a Sega mega drive, on the options screen menu, press in following sequence: a down b down c down a b up a c up b c up then return to the title screen, if press a and start together to star from lava powerhouse (level 2) b and start to start from the machine (level 3) and c and start to start from showdown (level 4, last level).

if you have it on a PlayStation product, play the same except for a use square, for b use x, and for c use o.

you go to options (below 2 player mode ) and do songs 19 65 9 17. if you did it right you will hear a ring. if you do, press start and when sonic and miles appear on the screen hold b and press start againand you will be there!!!!!

its very hard in fact almost impossible! after the sega logo disapears and before the screen becomes white press up up down down up up up.
