If you do not renew your paid membership, your account changes to a free basic membership and there will only be two moshlings available. (You do not get to choose which two. Moshi Monsters chooses which two are in your free basic account.) You will also have limited access to the areas which are available for free basic members. If you renew your paid membership later on, all your moshlings will still be in your paid account.

No it is not possible to steal or even give away Moshlings. Once Moshlings are in your Moshling Zoo, they stay there. Note for free Basic members: You may only have two moshlings in your room. When you attract a third moshling, you will be asked to choose which one to let go.

Your Moshi Monster can not run away, however, when your paid membership runs out, your moshlings will all disappear except 2. If you get a paid membership again the rest will still be in your zoo.

If you click an area of your monsters room away from where your monster is then this should whistle your monster.
How do you put something in your chest in moshi monsters?
When you are in your Moshi Monsters room, click the chest icon to open it and then drag the item you want to put away towards the bar at the bottom. It'll then be placed into your chest.
