As you know this is a very stubborn and messy stain (unlike candle wax) so it's best to have a professional carpet cleaner come up to try and get it out. Be sure you tell them it's a wool rug. If they can't get the spot out then phone a carpet repair place and they can fix it. I had a party once and someone burned a hole in my carpet with a cigarette and said nothing. I got a carpet repair man up and I couldn't believe what a good job he did and you couldn't even tell where the burn was.
If your carpet is non-synthetic - wool, for example - it won't be affected by nail polish remover. If your carpet is synthetic, nail polish remover will likely dissolve the fibers where it comes into contact with the nap. This is not a "spot" that can be removed. Rather, it is permanent damage.

The best way to bring nail polish out of your carpet ice. if you get an ice cube and set it on top of the nail polish and then leave it there for a couple of hours but don't leave it until the ice cube will have melted and then dried up come back when it is nearly melted and then get a knife and scrape it and that should bring it out!

While you might not be happy about your daughter spilling nail polish on your carpet, I would say the only proper punishment for her would be to deduct the cost of having the carpet cleaned from her allowance or, if she has a part-time or full-time job, have her pay directly for having the carpet cleaned.

Slightly moisten the Q-tip with the nail polish remover and carefully dab the pieces of cotton wool that are stuck to the table. They should come off quite easily.
