How do you get ores on harvest moon ds?

Firstly, you have to go into the mine by the waterfall. Go inside and Flora and Carter are in the first room. Go into the first door on the left ( more doors will appear as you dig more stuff up). There are no monsters on the first floor but if you use your hoe and find the stairs, you can go down levels to obtain better ores. Because there are no monsters, you can use your hammer and break all the rocks on the first floor without worry.
