First you must know what type of ink it is. There are two type commonly in use today. Pigmented inks contain other agents that ensure adhesion of the pigment to the surface and prevent it from being removed by mechanical abrasion. These materials are typically referred to as resins (in solvent-based inks) or binding agents (in water-based inks). Dye-based inks are generally much stronger than pigment-based inks and can produce much more color of a given density per unit of mass. However, because dyes are dissolved in the liquid phase, they have a tendency to soak into paper, thus making the ink less efficient and also potentially allowing the ink to bleed at the edges of an image, producing poor quality printing. To remove ink, some experimentation may be required. You will need to try various solvents such as paint thinner, acetone or turpentine applied with a swab. this will give you a good idea if the solvent is working when the ink transfers to the swab. You will also have to observe the fiber to determine if the solvent has caused it to "melt" or shrink substantially. Some carpet fibers are made of polymers that react poorly to solvents.

Once the proper solvent is found, soak the affected area with it and use a brush to scrub the spot and a shop vac to extract the fluid from the carpet. Failing that, you may try soaking the spot and scrubbing the area with a thick terry cloth towel.

There are also a number of commercial products such as "GooGone" and "Oxyclean" that have demonstrated good results.

This answer is based on using the products "Gel Break" and "Avenge"

Most inks and cosmetics respond well to spotting with Gel Break. Test by applying a very small amount of Gel Break to the spot. Allow Gel Break to dwell for one minute then gently blot with a white towel, if some removal is apparent then follow the steps below. If little or none of the spot comes up on the towel, call a Professional Carpet Cleaner for advice. Some ink and cosmetic stains can be permanent.

Steps:
1. Absorb, blot or scrape to remove excess material
2. Apply Gel Break directly to the spot and allow to dwell for one minute.
3. Gently blot to remove spot
4. Repeat until no more material is being removed
5. Apply Avenge to remove final residue of spot and to rinse clean.
6. Repeat if necessary.

How do you get black ink out of carpet?

Makeup is one of the hardest things to get out of carpet. One of the best things to remove cover up is peroxide, but you'll need to make sure that the dye in the carpet can withstand it. Most carpet cleaners, like Resolve, will eventually remove the stain.
