First you must know what type of ink it is. There are two type commonly in use today. Pigmented inks contain other agents that ensure adhesion of the pigment to the surface and prevent it from being removed by mechanical abrasion. These materials are typically referred to as resins (in solvent-based inks) or binding agents (in water-based inks). Dye-based inks are generally much stronger than pigment-based inks and can produce much more color of a given density per unit of mass. However, because dyes are dissolved in the liquid phase, they have a tendency to soak into paper, thus making the ink less efficient and also potentially allowing the ink to bleed at the edges of an image, producing poor quality printing. To remove ink, some experimentation may be required. You will need to try various solvents such as paint thinner, acetone or turpentine applied with a swab. this will give you a good idea if the solvent is working when the ink transfers to the swab. You will also have to observe the fiber to determine if the solvent has caused it to "melt" or shrink substantially. Some carpet fibers are made of polymers that react poorly to solvents.
Once the proper solvent is found, soak the affected area with it and use a brush to scrub the spot and a shop vac to extract the fluid from the carpet. Failing that, you may try soaking the spot and scrubbing the area with a thick terry cloth towel.
There are also a number of commercial products such as "GooGone" and "Oxyclean" that have demonstrated good results.
A mixture of dish soap and warm water can be used to gently blot the ink stain on the carpet. You can also try using rubbing alcohol or a commercial carpet stain remover specifically designed for ink stains. Remember to always test a small hidden area first to make sure it doesn't damage the carpet.

A mixture of rubbing alcohol and water or a commercial carpet stain remover can help to remove ballpoint ink from carpet. Blot the stain with the solution and a clean cloth, working from the outside in to prevent spreading the ink. Repeat until the ink is no longer transferring to the cloth.
to get blue ink out of carpet just use oxy-clean. IT really works. OR you can try regular aerosol hairspray. spray directly onto ink stain, blot out, DO NOT RUB! Repeat until gone, rinse clean with water. Works well with Jeans and t shirts also.
Toothpaste gets out sharpy but for ink, a liquid "Resolve". Buy this at Target or Walmart. Do not pay over $13 for this product.
Makeup is one of the hardest things to get out of carpet. One of the best things to remove cover up is peroxide, but you'll need to make sure that the dye in the carpet can withstand it. Most carpet cleaners, like Resolve, will eventually remove the stain.
Very difficult - try a vacuum cleaner first. However I suspect the carpet will be ruined - do you have household insurance - you may be able to get a replacement carpet.
To remove ink stains from carpets, you can try using rubbing alcohol or a mixture of dishwashing detergent and water. Blot the stain with a clean white cloth, working from the outside in, to avoid spreading the ink. Test the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the carpet first to ensure it does not cause damage.
If you have the replacement ink, you can refill an HP 95 ink cartridge at home. If you do not have any replacement ink handy, you can order it online at the HP website and have it shipped to your home where you can then refill it.

I am a single parent on a budget and my son has completely ruined my carpet by dropping an entire bottle of ink on it. Can you give me the name of a carpet cleaning company that is cheap in New York City?
