CWS is a Browser Hijacker. It resets IE start and search settings among other things.

The CWS Trojan appears to come from websites that are in some way affiliated with coolwebsearch.com

For more information, a list of coolwebsearch.com affiliated sites (there are a bunch of them) and to download CWShredder, an application created to specifically remove this hijacker, visit Spywareinfo.com.

This site is one of the best, IMHO. I highly recommend bookmarking this site and its Forums at http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ I've found both the main site and the forums to be invaluable resources

This is a direct link to the CWShredder .zip file http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

For the record, PSW Trojans (the topic under which this question was originally posted) are not the same as CWS trojans. The PSW family of Trojans steals passwords and other kinds of information like system details, registration details, et cetera.

WARNING while conducting some new research on CWS I just found an article that claims recent evidence has turned up identifying a new CWS variant or "mutation" that is being used for identity theft and is part of a ''Major Identity Theft Ring". According to Spywareinfo, the FBI is investigating. This is a very serious threat.

Atleast one variant of the CWS Trojan is now a double threat. (Ironically, it is now also more similar to the PSW Trojan than I had initially posted.)
