There is a nasal spray called Ocean (don't buy the generic versions.. they contain ingredients that are irritating). It consists of salt water, and is used to irrigate and heal the nasal passages. It works quite well for the problem you described and is recommended by many doctors.

Acids are sour and alkalis are bitter, so acids would generally taste better, if they aren't too strong (too low a pH). If they're too strong, the taste would be secondary to the damage that would be caused to the mouth and tongue.

I'm assuming you brewed your own tea from either bags or loose leaf. I would recommend reducing the steeping time. The longer the steep, the more bitter it gets.
