Algae spores float around in the air and can hit your pool at any time You can fix it by 1 shocking the pool and scrubbing the walls and floor of the pool if this doesn't clear it up just get an algaecide from your pool shop. When you vacuum the dead algae out of the pool it would be a good idea to vacuum it to waste to reduce the risk of reinfecting the pool.

you could drain the pool, but if you don't want to drain your pool, you could get a pool skimmer and get all of the leaches out of your pool and then carry the leaches to a near by sewer, or a murky pond/lake/river.

There are special cleansers for that that are sold at all pool supply stores. And you can use a small hand held scrub brush with any household cleaners. scrub them
They don't want to be around people any more than you want them to be aroun your pool. It's not the flowers or the chemical levels. It's the water. They're thirsty. Put out a shallow bird bath away from the pool. They'll go there to drink. Then you can swim. The bird bath works best if its concrete.
