You should wash it regularly from now on and shampoo TWICE before applying conditioner. Reason why is when you shampoo once all that does is move dirt around but when you wash it twice it will cleanse your scalp. With conditioner apply gently and not to much focus on your ends not your scalp, avoid any oil treatments for your hair that you may have.
