The CHEAP Way:
Get a good quality lice comb.
Get some olive oil.
Drench hair with oil and leave in for about an hour.
Comb out lice.
Use your fingernails to remove stubborn nits.
Be ready to do this over and over for days or weeks because your house is probably infested and your heads will get re-infested. And spraying with poison doesn't kill them.
The BEST Way:
Get an essential oil based treatment to kill the lice containing Tea Tree Oil and Neem Seed Oil at the minimum.
Get an enzyme treatment to dislodge the nits so you can comb them out easily.
Get an enzyme clothing, bedding and environment treatment to help get them all out of your house.

Lice is elementary school was just part of life in every generation. Not all children had head lice, but when several students had it, then they were sent home and the other parents were contacted. It is not necessary to shave the hair off the head. There are very effective remedies and you can ask your pharmacist. It's true as the other poster said that a comb does come with any kit to rid a child of lice. Tea Tree Oil is good as the one poster said, but since lice gives everyone the willies and can infect other children or those in the household it's best to get at it right away. As the poster said clean combs, brushes, etc., well. In fact, throw the brush out! Combs are fine because they can be disinfected. Follow the other posters suggestions of cleaning all bedding (get rid of the pillow entirely) and wash all clothing your son has been wearing. ---- Rid: It is an over the counter liceacide. Follow the instructions carefully so as to achieve the maximum efficency of the product. Shaving the effacted area (arm pits, pubic areas, legs) is not necessary but the best defense against eggs remaining and hatching. Lice lay eggs on the part-way up the hairshaft. The products are not 100% effactive on the eggs this is why a "nit" comb is included so a person can literally comb off the eggs. Shaving removes the hair and the egg. I do suggest shaving. There is also an aroma therapy oil called Tea Tree oil that works quite well: use 3 or 4 drops in a handful of mousse or gel and work it into the hair. mousse or gel also works as a preventative measure, at least in the case of my kids it does. Make sure you wash all clothes, blankets, towels and anything that comes in contact with the affected person with HOT water. Steam cleaning the carpets is also a good idea. I had lice before and I just went to my nearby Walgreens and got this thing called RID Complete Lice Elimination Kit it has everything to get rid of lice it says Americas #1 lice killing brand but I'm not sure if thats true but trust me it really works.
