Yes, there are usually pool products offered by companys that remove rust from the water. However if it's rusty the products don't work as well. Metal in your water is more easily removed before chlorine is added. Once Chl is added it rusts the metals and they loose their ability to be easily attracted out. Bioguard has a product called Pool Magnet. Can be used anytime, but is best before chlorine is added. Rusty water, clean your filter or back wash every couple hours and use "Sparkle Up" in the filtering system. Your filter will get it out. If you get stains there are stain removers too.

∙ 8y agoI have the same question. A screwdriver was laying at the bottom of my pool throughout the whole winter, now there is a rust mark about 2in by 2in in the bottom of my pool. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it without clouding my water or damaging the vinyl liner?

Afraid not. Vinyl liner pools are built using "concrete receptor coping" into which the deck is poured. It also contains the "bead receptor" that the vinyl liner attaches to. Actually YES it can. You would want to do this during a liner replacement but it can be done. You would have to remove the concrete from around the perimeter of the pool, remove/ replace the "concrete receptor coping" with bead receiver, aluminum extrusion, form/pour a bond beam, then lay your stone. Not really an easy do it yourself job but it can be done.
