The wasp nest will need to be sprayed from a distance to prevent swarming and stinging. Get a strong wasp killer spray that will spray a long distance and remain several feet away when spraying.
You can simply knock the nest down and they will eventually leave, or spray them with a specialized wasp poison canister that shoots a stream very high/far to be able to reach into trees and the eaves of houses.
Wasps do not have "stringers".

No. Only young queen wasps hibernate, and they find a sheltered, dry place such as under the eaves of a house, or in a hole in a tree. The rest of the wasps die when cold weather comes.
Wasps are unfriendly insects that are ready to shoot at you anytime. Removing them from your home as soon as possible is highly recommended. As an example, pouring hot water over the method of wasps can be the most easy and economical method. Specialized oil extracts for wasp removal and or waspinators can be good alternatives as well.
Wasps do not reuse old nests, so if you know the wasps have gone there is no risk and you can simply remove the nest.
