after you double click on "add new hardware" there will eventually be a screen that asks you if you want windows to look for it or if you choose to select it yourself. When you select that option, a list of hardware opens up. just follow the prompts. Don't be afraid to let the wizard start to look. It won't search unless you choose that option.

Nah, I suspect they're referring to the times when Windows actually manages to find the inf on it's own so you never get a chance to do anything. I had this trouble myself at one point. In the end, I searched for and deleted the .inf file that Windows was using so it had to ask me for a location.

How do you install a sound card on Windows 98?

Installing hardware in Windows 98 is a very simple process. First, you need to remove the cover to your computer, if the card is not already physically installed. Plug the card into an available expansion slot. Screw it in and replace the cover. Power on the computer and boot into Windows 98. A window should pop up, saying that it has found new hardware. Insert the disc that came with the hard drive, and tell it to search your CD-ROM for drivers. It should automatically find and install the appropriate drivers. If you have lost your driver disk, you will need to find them online. They should be available at the manufacturer's website. Download the drivers, and tell the Hardware wizard to search the folder where you downloaded them. It should find them and install them automatically.

What is a problem with computer hardware?

A common problem with computer hardware involves the drivers. Many people will install new hardware (video card, sound card, network card, card readers, web cams) without installing the proper drivers. A driver tells windows how to use the hardware, and where it located, when not installed windows will not be able to use the newly added hardware, and may give many alerts on starting windows.

Plug and play ! The majority of hardware just needs plugging into a USB port, and Windows will either auto-detect and install the drivers, or ask for the disk.

How do you prevent the 'New Hardware Found' from automatically loading in the Windows 98 SE operating system?

windows is a plug & play OS so every time you add a new device it will give you a new hardware found prompt.to prevent this you must remove the hardware or let windows try to find the driver if you try to cancel it it will just show up on the next boot so try to install it even if you don't have the drivers windows will just put it on your system without a driver.it won't hurt your system and you won't get the NEW HARDWARE FOUND PROMPT AGAIN.
