when watches are made they are sealed with a gel that is not water soluble. that is so removal of the plate is made easier. you should first bring a large pot of water to just about boiling point not to hot because the internal components will not react well to intense heat especially if it contains springs, if it is a digital watch then boiling is fine. next drop the watch in the water for approximately 60 seconds or a minute. be sure to have a removal device ready before hand for safe removal. after you remove the watch just twist the face counter clockwise to remove. to reseal the watch replace the cover and squeeze firmly for about two minutes while it reseals. good luck.

To remove the back of a Rolex watch, you need a case back removal tool. Place the watch face down on a soft cloth to protect it, then use the tool to carefully unscrew the back by turning it counterclockwise. Be cautious as you do this to avoid damaging the watch.
Theoretically you can twist off the back using a watch case opener, but the one I am working on right now seems so old and corroded, it won't twist off. You do have to take out the strap pins and remove the band from the watch to twist off the back.

There should be four very small screws. You may have to go to a hardware store to get the appropiate screwdriver, but once you take them off you only need to pop the backing off and you're done.
To change the watch crown, the back of the watch must be taken off. The inner workings of the watch are then removed, and the old crown taken out. The process is reversed to put the watch back together. Some of the fancier watches have a crown that can be unscrewed from the outside.
