You can get essences by tapping the little machine in the right hand corner of the touch screen on your DS. Walk around to certain items, and a little star will appear over your head when you can suck up an essence. Press the A button,and the machine will suck it up for you, giving you your essence. Essences are used for making other items in the Synth-O-Tron, or give them to Tilijaro for him to make houses.
