How do you get the item you want from a Toad House in New Super Mario Bros?

First enter a Red Toad House. Then, stand under the block. The trick depends on your size.

If you are tiny:

Press START when you see the item you want.

If you are standard Mario:

If you want a Super Mushroom, press START when you see the Fire Flower.

If you want a Fire Flower, press START when you see the Koopa Shell.

If you want a Koopa Shell, press START when you see the Mini Mushroom.

If you want a Mini Mushroom, press START when you see the Super Mushroom.

If you are Super Mario, Fire Mario, or Shell Mario (works best):

If you want a Super Mushroom, press START when you see the Koopa Shell.

If you want a Fire Flower, press START when you see the Mini Mushroom.

If you want a Koopa Shell, press START when you see the Super Mushroom.

If you want a Mini Mushroom, press START when you see the Fire Flower.

Then press A twice quickly. You should get the right item. It's not guaranteed to work, but the odds would probably be about 95%.
