they are behind the water pump looking strait down from the top of the engine
That depends on who you are asking. If you're paying a shop to do it, it's about 1.5 hours. If you are planning on doing it yourself, more like 3. The serpentine belt comes off, then the alternator, then the water pump (after you drained the coolant), you have to swap the pulley from your old water pump to the new one...
How do you replace timing chain & water pump on a2001 Chevrolet cavalier
If one takes a look at a fan belt diagram for a Chevrolet 3500 with an 8.0 liter engine, one can see a tensioner and water pump pulley. There are also crankshaft, idler, and generator pulleys.
The water from your 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier cooling system. Remove the heater core water supply hoses. Remove the heater core retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new heater core.
The water pump pulley is the pulley right above the crank pulley (the big pulley in the bottom of the engine.) Right above the water pump pulley should be the alternator pulley, which drives the alternator. I'm guessing the water pump is behind the WP pulley. == == == ==
all you have to do is run water hoes in the hood of your car and start it why the water is running in to it =)
The water pump is located behind the water pump pulley. The water pump pulley is the smooth pulley at the top closest to the front of the car. It is held in place by 4 bolts with 8mm heads. The pump is held in place with 5 bolts. Warm the engine to operating temperature before removing the bolts or they may break off causing you greif.
Pulley above the crankshaft pulley (lowest on engine)
Power steering belt to crankshaft pulley. Alternator belt to water pump pulley and to crankshaft. A/C compressor belt to power steering pump and to crankshaft pulley. Smog/Air pump belt to water pump pulley. This is for a truck that had a 2 grove power steering pulley, a 2 grove water pump pulley and a 3 grove crankshaft pulley................
The water pump uses the timing belt to spin the pulley on it. The pulley than propels the coolant throughout the engine. This keeps the cars engine at a moderate temperature.
Behind the Timing Belt at the front of the engine. The water pump pulley is the top central pulley on the engine. Removing the Timing Belt is required.
