You have to take a certification class at a recreation center.
To become an instructor of swimming there are a few things that need to be done. First, the person must be certified in CPR. Second, the person must become certified in First Aid. Third, the person must take a course to become certified as a lifeguard. Finally, the person should take a Water Safety Instructor Course.

differs for every state here in Oklahoma the boaters safety course is not required but must be 12 to drive PWC and 16 years and under must wear a lifevest while on water
