By storage compartment I will assume you are referring to the tool compartment on the left side of the bike, below the seat. This is the only storage compartment on my 2001 suzuki intruder.
Using the same key that turns on your engine or takes off your gas cap, unlock the storage compartment. Using your left hand, grasp the cover on the lower left side and lift outward (toward you) and up. Notice the fuel line which runs from the gas tank and goes through a cutout in the storage compartment cover. This will need to be put back into place when replacing the cover.
With the outer cover now off, you will see a black, inner cover. This inner cover is held on in three places. There are two tabs on the bottom of the cover that fit snugly into pre-cut holes and there is a tab on the top of the cover. Using a finger, pull up and out on the top tab gently. You will feel it lightly snap open. Then pull the cover towards you. The two tabs on the bottom of the cover will come easily out.
Just do not forget to route the gas line properly when putting it all back together.
I don't think the basic shadow came with one, if you add saddle bags and such then you have storage

The powertrain control module (PCM) is visible from the engine compartment. It is in the firewall on the passenger side. The rap module for your keyless entry should be in your jack storage compartment (at least it is on the 4 door)
