Cendrillon is the story of Cinderella. It is an opera written by Jules Massenet. During the first act, Cinderella's father Pandolfe pities his daughter Cendrillon. Her father, his new wife, and her two daughters are to attend a ball, which Cendrillon is forbade from attending. She falls asleep next to the fire place and her fairy godmother appears. She is given magnificent clothing and is told to return by midnight. The second act takes place at the palace where the prince is melancholy because he has to choose a wife. Cendrillon enters and everyone is blown away by her beauty and grace. Act three is the return from the ball, where Cendrillon's father tells her that they are to return to their home in the country. The prince and Cendrillion are brought together by fairies and they fall asleep in each other's arms. In the final act, Cendrillon's stepmother tells of an assemblage of the eligible princesses to try on the glass slipper that Cendrillon lost on her way home from the ball. Cendrillon tries on the slipper and is recognized by the prince and they live happily ever after.
