It is not a dungeon, but an underground lab, and you get the key by taking the secret message (maid's room in the castle) to the Mill (second floor), and using the Cosmic symbols to open the secret chamber (under the village fountain).
Once inside, you will need to feed the mechanical mouse to the mechanical owl, then push the dirt wall down to go left into the rear entrance of the castle dungeon.

Push through the dirt wall. You should already have opened the back gate with the switch in the dungeon. Feed the mouse to Merlin. He can retrieve things for you.
There is no jail on Astro Knights Island. There is a castle dungeon, where an attacking alien robot is being held after his capture. (see the related question)
Actually, Merlin has little to do on Astro Knights Island. He recovers the fuel rod from the dungeon when the robot self-destructs. And he battles Mordred at the very end of the island.
There is no key to the dungeon. The small key open Mordred's underground laboratory, which has a back way into the dungeon. (see the related questions)
