The process of becoming Miss America is a difficult one. First, one must earn the title of "Miss" in a local pageant. Then they must compete at the state level against twenty or so other young women. Once the state title is won, the contestant advances to the Miss America level to compete against ladies from across the nation. These women must face each other in categories such as talent, interview, swim wear and evening gown. The whole Miss America competition is a week long and is extremely trying on participants. One year I went to spectate for a friend who was competing, and I was surprised by how much hard work these ladies put into the event. Months of preparation was spent for just a few days of competition! The woman who is crowned Miss America must be dedicated, passionate, and beautiful, both inside and out.
