You go east from goodsprings. You end up following all the quests and makeing a giant loop but its safe. Only go north of goodsprings if you are a high level and have good armor and weapons and companions, try best to get sneak attack kills and use vats when ever possible and have a but load of med x and stims.

From Goodsprings, the game's starting point, the player only needs to head north-east and enter the area called "Freeside" and just continue on to the strip area, which is only a bit further on in the city area.

This is not advised, however, as many of the creatures and NPCs are very high leveled, and the quests before going to New Vegas are used for the main purpose of leveling the character, and looting stronger items for the quests in New Vegas.

Like Trudy at the saloon says, it is easier to take highway 95 around than taking the straight railroad named I-15. It is infested with deathclaws, but you can do the quest for sloan which is really difficult. Don't try taking that curve around heading into I-15 because it is infested with cazadors, which I think are the 2nd most difficult enemy.

If you look to the west of your map, you'll see a distinct crater shape, this is the location of Jacobstown.
