Assuming it's the same as my 1995 Ford Explorer XLT
I get the 2 rod pieces that are stored under the panel behind the rear seat
( I go around to the passenger side and flip the rear seat back forward as if I
was making the cargo area bigger ) and lift up the panel . The 2 rod pieces are
held in place by clips
I open the rear liftgate and behind the removable plastic panel on the drivers
side of the cargo area near the rear is the lug nut wrench which also is used
to crank the rod sections for the wheel jack and one rod section to lower the spare tire
With the liftgate open you will see a hole just above the rear bumper at the middle of the bumper . Take the rod section that has a bit of a hook on the end and using the lug nut wrench as a crank handle insert the hook end of the rod into the hole and push it in straight back until it engages the crank " wheel "
Turn the rod counterclockwise to lower the spare tire ( keep the weight of the spare tire on the cable when cranking the spare tire up or down in order to keep the cable from getting twisted up )
Under the trunk carpet
