According to the U.S. Department of Education, when a school closes "the generally accepted practice is for the school to make arrangements with the state-licensing agency to store their records." While there is no guarantee that the school did this, it is worth checking with the U.S. Dept. of Education. For contact information for your state, visit the Related Link.

If the school that closed is a public school, you can also contact the main office of the school district that the school was in. There is a good chance that they will have the records of the closed school.

If the closed school was affiliated with a religious organization, you can contact someone within that organization to help you find out where the records were sent when the school was closed. If the organization has another school that is still open, that would be a good place to start. If the school was affiliated with a particular church, that church might still have the school's records.
