first when you just get the dog show your cat the dog, if it seems mad take it away from her but keep on showing the puppy a lot of times in the day. Then if she doesnt seem mad the first times she sees him hold the puppy in your hand to keep it safe from the cat but also let the cat see it. The main thing is to show your cat that although you got a doggy that you still love the cat. When they dont accept another pet is that they are mostly jealous

Animals dont have emotions like we do. Animal trainers have different methods and sometimes none of them work. You can try keeping them separated in the house someway, like an Accordion door between 2 rooms, so that they can see each other and the cat will 'get used to' the idea that the puppy is not a threat - the accordion door can then be removed. Another method is to feed them both at the same time, but several feet away and in (obviously) separate dishes/bowls. Petting the puppy to get the smell on your hands and then petting the cat (some gooooood petting) might help. Also use common sense and dont think its funny for the puppy to chase the cat or bark at it. You have to step in and stop that kind of behavior. A reputable animal trainer is always an option.
Yes, the puppy wants to play with the cat.
Usually kittens will get on better when introduced with a new puppy than a mature cat, but if this happens its easiest to give the cat and dog their separate spaces and let the cat decide when it wants to meet the puppy, or at the very least just tolerate it.Added: Because the cat was there first you must establish the role of the puppy. To the cat the puppy is low, and depending on your relationship with the cat, either you or the cat follow. Always show the cat FIRST affection. That is when the puppy and cat are in the same room, coo and pat the cat first then the puppy. Ignore if the puppy tries for your affection. A puppy right now wont understand exactly but the cat does. in time the puppy will realise the cat gets first priority, this makes the cat happy and also understand that you have accepted the puppy into your group. In time the cat should too. If the cat hisses at the puppy don't punish the cat and don't grab for the puppy, this is seen as you defending the puppy and the sudden movement of the puppy may cause the cat to react aggressively. if the cat swipes the puppy, again do not interfere. The cat is showing the puppy the ranks. Animals will not normally harm extensively a baby animal being introduced to the famil group. As an owner of 8 cats and having to introduce one puppy and 1 yearling dog to them, I have watched first hand the reactions cats make. The biggest order of business to them is: Rank.
The best way to introduce a new puppy to an older house cat is to hold the cat while the puppy checks it out.

A kitten is a baby Cat and a puppy is a baby dog
You can keep the puppy from eating the cat food by putting the cat's food dish at a higher level. Cat have a natural tendency to jump up to higher levels to eat prey, so this will not disturb your cat at all. You can also feed the cat in a separate room from the puppy, such as the bathroom with the door closed, and return in 10 minutes to let the cat out and collect the dish.
Probably not.
Depends when this question was posted......at one time last spring (2009) there was a recall of many cat foods due to an ingredient added from China. This recall has passed and according to vets - if your cat is an indoor only cat it should have more canned food and less dry food.
Yes, but with the cat being older it may be difficult. See the question 'How do you get your cat to like your new puppy?' (I answered this question too)
