How do you get your dog to rollover?

It can be difficult to get some dogs to roll-over because they don't like showing their belly as it makes them vulnerable but most dogs don't mind it.

To start teaching roll-over it is useful if the dog already knows lie down and play dead.

If they know either of these, give them the command and then lure their head backwards towards their shoulder and they should roll over and onto their back and then finish the roll as they get up again. This will be easier to do if the dog is playing dead.

When doing this you must be catreful not to force the dog to roll over. If you do to the dog this will be an alpha roll which is an old-fashioned technique that is supposed to make the person doing it dominate over the dog. For nervous dogs this will befrightingand they might become aggressive.
