You may want to see things in a different way then he does and since you want to be with him still and have hopes you believe that it is not ending or ended when in fact he seems to believe that it is and is ready to move forward without you. Take some time apart and see how things go, don't be persistant or pester him concerning this as it will only push him away. You could also simply ask him where things stand between you and if he says its over then accept it and ask him not to lead you on anymore or contact you, let you be.
