First of all, this usually will not work. Most hamsters are at least a little bit afriad of their owners, so do not completely trust them to keep them safe while sleeping. As they can feel the movement of the human breathing, they are aware that they are moving when sitting in hand, so do not like going to sleep when conscious of this movement. It helps to take the hamster out of its house when just woken up, so it is still sleepy, and place it in your hands in a darkened room, cupping your hands around it. Placing a light material such as a handkerchief over the hamster can help too - don't worry, as long as you don't tuck it in, it won't suffocate. The hamster will hopefully drop off into peaceful sleep.

What do you do if you have a squirmy hamster?

the best way to introduce your hamster to handling is to let them come to your hand. if you were a hamster you wouldn't want to be grabbed! show that you are not a threat by putting your hand in the cage near the hamster without touching it and slowly moving it away from the hamster. this way your hamster is more likely to come to your hand. avoid quick movements as this will scare your hamster. when your hamster has had enough leave it or it wont come out when you are there. though it may take time, your hamster will gradualy get used to your hand and wont mind being held! i am in the process of taming my fourth hamster at the moment! hope i helped!

If your hamster runs away from you does that mean it's scared of you?

If your hamster runs away from you, it might mean that he or she is afraid of you, but it might also mean that the hamster is simply not trained. You can train a hamster to come to you by rewarding the hamster with food each time it climbs onto your hand.

Young hamster hopped out of my hand several feet to the floor. Now she just drags around her hind legs. Is this permanent?

You should take the hamster to the veterinarian immediately if you haven't done so already. This could be permanent. You are not supposed to hold a hamster high above the floor. It's extremely dangerous and can be fatal to the hamster if he jumps off your hand.

Why would you not want a hamster?

Ok so first you need to put food or a treat in your hand and then put your hand in the cage. If the hamster is ready to be held it will come upi to you and will sniff you. If it crawls onto your hands and eats the treat start to pet it. If it scurries away try again later, but of not they slowly pick it up and put it in a bath tub or sink. Play with it until he will freely crawl into your hand.

How not to scare your hamster?

When first getting a hamster, you should give it a couple of days to adjust. You can start to get to know them by laying your hand in the cage with a treat on it. Your hamster will probably sniff your hand, and then grab the treat. If your hamster bites your hand, pull your hand out of the cage. Keep trying this for a couple of days and your hamster will begin to feel more comfortable around you!
