It depends on which remote you are refering to. The Wii Motion Plus controller and the classic Wii Remote will work on the Wii and Wii U. The Wii U gamepad will not work on the original Wii.

If one did want to use a foot controller with it, the pro-fex II optional midi foot controller had some special control features when they were hooked together using a special proprietary midi cable that are not available when using a standard midi cable or other type of foot controller.
I think that you can use the original Classic Controller though I am not positive. However, I am positive that you can use the WiiMote and nunchuck or the Classic Controller Pro. I also know for a fact the gamecube controller does not work.
