The comb-like one should be used first, especially behind the ears and the fur on and adjacent to the tail. Then comes the other brush to pick up the excess fur. Brushing every other day is good to keep the tangles out. Washing should be less frequent, as it makes the coat dry and dull. Once a month, perhaps, twice at most, if it's summer and your dog is stinky.
