You can grow out type 4a hair by keepin it braided,cornrowed,twisted,keep these styles in for about 2 weeks-2 months ,it will grow out.When it is time to take down the style,wash it,deep condition it ,let the hair rest by puttin it in natural styles and leaving it alone for awhile.This is a really good way for growing out 4a hair.

For natural 4a hair styles- wear a neat,comb out afro(with a headband it you want).hot comb it,but when hotcombing be careful and make sure the hotcomb isn't TOO HOT. Do not hotcomb alot. you could wear a puff. you could wear it curly by moisturizing the hair and keep it in braids overnight.The next day,take the braids down and your hair should be curly. It is best to do the curly style,when hair is really moisturized.

moisturizers-Since 4a hair need alot more moisture,use a light oil,use oils without petroleum or mineral oil..Oils wit petroleum and mineral oil is too heavy on 4a/4b hair so it will just sit on the scalp and clog pores.Light oil penetrate through the scalp,this is a good thing.i use Africa Best herbal oil,you can get it cheap at Walmart.Africa's best has only natural oils in it. It has soy bean oil, olive fruit oil,walnut see oil and other natural oils.You can also do hot oil treatments with this oil simply by heating the bottle.The back of this oil will tell you exactly how to do it.

Hot oils are really good for 4a hair because it really moisturizes the scalp.Do hot oils once a month.

Washing and conditioning 4a hair- it is best to use shampoo that do not contain the ingredients called Sulfate. Sulfrates dry out 4a hair . I use Organix Shampoo and Conditioner. It does not contain Sulfate. They have diffrent kinds I use Organix Shea Butter Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. This shampoo is designed to smooth, nourish and de-frizz hair. You can purchase this product at Walmart for $6 a bottle. They also Nourishing cocunut milk,Healing Mandarin Olive oil, and hydrating tea tree mint. I feel these are the best kind for 4a hair. You can also use a detangler if you want.a lot of African American use Just for Me detanglers .People say even though it's for kids it works for any type of afro hair. For detangling i just use a light hair oil and comb my hair out. This works too. People with natural African American hair do it all the time. Please realize that 4a hair shrinks 75 percent when when wet, especially after washing.

Accessories-It is best to use a wide toothed comb. This will reduce the amount of hair that usually comes out when hair is bein combed. if you want to wear ponytails etc, do not use rubberbands.Instead use the coton ponytail holders,you will find these in black beauty stores and even Wallmart. You can wear headbands but make sure you take it off at night. Clips are good but again take them out at night. Only use rubberbands when wearing twisties to the scalp or at the ends of braids (if you want).
