Customers use profanity when they are really angry with the service. The customer service personnel should just stay calm and focus on solving the problems.
What an angry caller needs is a calm voice at the other end and the assurance that the person they are talking to, 1) understands where they are coming from and 2) that they will follow up whatever the angry caller is complaining about. Nothing else matters, no one wants to talk to yet a mirror image of themselves at the other end of the phone. Even if you do not understand, you have to sound as if you do....good luck
Irate customer means angry customer. The customer who is angry because of poor services provided.
Treat them with kindness, no matter what. Refuse to drop to their level, i.e. anger. If you can't handle themor everything you do is wrong as far as they are concerned, refer them to your supervisor. As hard as it may be sometimes, remember the maxim that "the customer is always right".
For me, I prefer both. Why? Because doubtful customer can educate about the product or service from inquiries up to order processing and angry customer can pacify them by sympathy, offering a reward program and ask an apology about poor product or service and poor customer service. My objective is to retain the customers for patronizing the product/service regardless what type of customers are.
