To score well in path words, just keep on guessing words, small words may not be worth many points but you will get more points that way than looking for the 5 6 and 7 letter words I agree! Scoring words with 5+ letters is important but so is quantity of words. I score much lower in games when I put too much effort into trying to arrange the letters in order to get a 6 or 7-letter word than in games where I'm looking out for high-letter combos but am constantly getting new words regardless of length. I'll stop playing in a particular part of the board, effectively freezing it when I need just the last letter for a longer word (usually by adding "ed" or "er" to a shorter word), but I'll only do that for 2 or 3 moves and then I take the shorter word move on! I play 2 to 3 games most days and have a high score of 1050 - which is still 500 points less than I need to make it to #2 with my friends and 590 points less than to be #1. But a couple of months ago I rarely got above 700 and now I do that consistently, and a big part of that reason is focusing on quantity as well as length of words.
