You need to search for wiring diagram for 1981 cutlass. Or just go to your local Autozone or whatever and buy a haynes manual . All diagrams are in it.
It is a simple matter of hooking up the 12v usually to the red wire with a inline fuse. The ground wire - black . The speaker wires - usually green and brown or yellow or blue striped , should be 4 . Perhaps an antenna wire - might be orange. Perhaps a remote wire - might be blue .

first you pull the factory plate from the concole, all you need to do that is a flat head screw driver. after the plate is pulled you remove the factory radio, and unplug the wiring from the harness. ensure that you have a wiring harness to match the car, you can buy it at canadiantire for $13. wire your new CD player to this wiring harness and plug the harness into the factory wiring. you will also need a mounting kit that you buy at Canadian tire for $20. install the CD player in the mounting kit and bracket into the dash. now you can reinstall the plate and now the CD player is installed. process takes 20 minutes to an hour.
