You'll need to get parts from one with abs. You may also need the wiring harness and computer. I know you'll need the relay, abs modulator, and maybe even the master cylinder and tubing out of the abs equipped parts vehicle. You can get them from a junk yard, but no guarantee they work. I'd leave it as is the ABS really only helps in the rain. I've only looked up my 93 cherokees brakes up once.
It was an option
My '96 Cherokee Sport does, so I bet a '98 does.
How to change the brake switch on a 2004 Jeep grand Cherokee Laredo
No
You buy a non abs booster and master cylinder, bolt them in, and bleed the system.
to turn the abs light off
The abs light is reset with a scan tool after repairing the failure that caused the code.
If the ABS light is on the ABS system has a problem and is not functioning. Until the problem is repaired the light will remain on. Take it to a mechanic and have it diagnosed.
You need to have the abs codes read, repair the cause, and the light will turn itself off.
I know the Cherokee does. If the Grand Cherokee does, check the diagrahm on the fuse panel cover. or owners manual.
The abs light is on because there is a problem with the system and will remain on until the system is fixed. As long as the light is on the abs will not function.
The 1996 ( most other model years ) Jeep Cherokee has either the DANA 35 rear axle or the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. ABS brakes are optional with the Dana 35 . The Chrysler 8.25 never had ABS. The front axle is the DANA 30.
