The 1902 British Crown (Five Shillings) is round, weighs 28.35 grams, is 38.6mm in diameter and is made from sterling silver.

The obverse has a right facing image of a bare headed and bearded King Edward VII with the inscription "EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX: FID: DEF: IND: IMP:" around the circumference.

The reverse has the traditional Benedetto Pistrucci design of a horse mounted, sword wielding St. George slaying a dragon.

The edge inscription is raised and reads "DECUS ET TUTAMEN ANNO REGNI II". A very few coins were struck with an error in the edge inscription.

The date is in the exergue below the dragon.

All British Half-Sovereign coins minted from 1817 to present day are minted to the same specifications.

They are made from 22 carat gold, they are 19.3mm in diameter and weigh 3.99 grams.

The 1912 Half-Sovereign has the image of a left facing King George V with the legend "GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D.IND:IMP:" on the obverse.

The Benedetto Pistrucci design of St George and the dragon is on the reverse with the year at the bottom in the exergue.

The 1912 Half-Sovereign was minted at one of two mints. The Royal Mint London which will have no mintmark, and the Sydney Mint which will be indicated by an "S" after the year.

All Half-Sovereign coins minted at the Perth Mint will have a small capital P on the ground below the horses right rear foot and above the middle of the year.

Any Half-Sovereign coin using the St George design and not minted at the Royal Mint, will have the mintmark in this position.
